Governor Hogan withdrew a proposed smog regulation when he entered office and has proposed a weaker alternative. Amazingly, Maryland ranks worse than states like North Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky, and West Virginia when it comes to the percentage of our power plants outfitted with the best technology to decrease pollution. Delegate Brooke Lierman and I organized a letter from about 30 of our colleagues to the Hogan Administration in order to better understand the Administration's new approach and how it will--or, unfortunately, will not--improve air quality.
