Changes in the federal government impact every one of us around the country. At such a critical time in our country’s history, it is vital that we do everything we can, both nationally and at the state level, to protect our citizens from harmful federal actions. Marc is fighting every day to maintain the rights that all Marylanders deserve by:
Defending Maryland. Defending Maryland means not just strengthening institutions, but also fighting back against destructive measures. Because of this, Marc helped to empower Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh by providing him with the resources and funding he needs to protect Maryland through lawsuits against the federal government.
Protecting women’s healthcare. Marc is proud to have voted for legislation that makes Maryland the first state to ensure funding for Planned Parenthood and other women’s health and family planning programs, even if it is defunded at the national level. Marc also co-sponsored legislation that makes it easier for women to obtain contraceptives.
Fighting climate change and improving the environment. While the federal government falls behind in protecting our environment and natural resources, Maryland is leading the fight against climate change. By empowering Attorney General Frosh, Marc is helping to fight against efforts to end the Chesapeake Bay restoration program. Marc is also demonstrating Maryland’s commitment to improving the environment and fighting climate change by voting to overturn Governor Hogan’s veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, banning fracking, and passing his own bill that studies how to incentivize the use of energy storage devices. You can read more about Marc's leadership in renewable energy and climate action here. Marc’s transportation plan also emphasizes expanding the use of public transportation and encouraging smarter development, which you can read more about here.
Working to ensure that all Marylanders have access to quality, affordable healthcare. In Maryland, over 400,000 residents rely on the Affordable Care Act for their health insurance. Marc voted in legislation that strongly encouraged our Congressional delegation and Governor Hogan to oppose efforts to repeal the law and remove coverage for millions around the country and many within our state.
