More Bills - Week 4 Update

I continue to introduce legislation for the 2019 session.  Bills I have introduced during the past few days include:
  • Transit Benefit for State Employees Act: Codifies an existing benefit for state employees to have free transit access and studies expanding the benefit to the MARC commuter rail and Metro systems.
  • Graduate Assistant Collective Bargaining Fairness Act: Extends collective bargaining rights to graduate student employees.  Here is an article on the bill.
  • Regional Transportation and Climate Protection Act: Codifies Maryland's involvement in negotiating a regional agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector.

The Budget - Week 3 Update

Last week was a big one for the Governor: he was inaugurated for a second term and introduced his fiscal year 2020 budget proposal.  I enjoyed the day of ceremony as the Governor and Lieutenant Governor were sworn in, and I'm glad the inaugural address given outside the capitol did not occur during the polar vortex.  As for the budget, I cannot overstate its importance to our state.  It is the only piece of legislation the legislature must address each year in order for us to adjourn.  But more than that, how we spend your tax dollars is a statement about what we value

Getting Started - Week 2 Update

A week ago I was sworn in for my second term and it has been non-stop since then as that Appropriations Committee begins briefings, the Montgomery County Delegation begins working, and I work on my legislative agenda.

​Later today, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor will be inaugurated for a second term and their budget proposal is due at the end of the week.  We are just a few days in and the 90 day legislative session is already humming along.

Later today I will be sworn in for my second term as your State Delegate.  Thank you for the continued opportunity to serve you and District 16.
