The legislative session continues. Last week we took our first votes of the session (and,of course, the first votes of my career) on the House floor. The legislation was technical in nature and non-controversial, but it was still exciting to cast a real vote.
Last week both the House and Senate heard a joint State of the Judiciary address by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, Mary Ellen Barbera. You can read the address here if you are interested.
Thursday is the bill introduction deadline in the House of Delegates. Any bill introduced aftertomorrow at 5pm is not guaranteed a hearing. I am in the process of introducing two more pieces of legislation before the deadline:
Now that we are several weeks into the legislative session and the Governor's budget has been introduced, the pace of work in Annapolis has increased. Hearings in my committee--Appropriations--on individual state agencies and departments have begun. We also held our first bills hearing on non-budget legislation.
