Outside the Legislative Session: May Update

5/11/2021

Picture
With the 2021 legislative session now in the rear view mirror, I have been spending a lot of time talking to people about the work we did (more on that below) and what constituents want us to continue to make progress on in the future.  My team—the hardest working nine and four year olds in Maryland—are also out most weekends sharing my constituent service guide and talking about the District 16 Team.
I also got a great laugh out of this Bethesda Bonfire "profile" of me.  Some of my best friends were not sure if it was serious or satire.

As always, you can keep up with what I am doing by following me at @mkorman on Twitter or by clicking "Like" on Delegate Marc Korman on Facebook.

Legislative News

The District 16 Team--Senator Lee, Delegate Kelly, Delegate Love, and I--provided an update on the 2021 legislative session at a recent town hall.  If you were unable to join us, you can watch it online.

And if you have a question about the legislative session, just click reply and it will come right to me for a response.
-----
I also highly recommend the Department of Legislative Service's 90 Day Report, which summarizes the work of the General Assembly by issue.  Check it out here.
-----
The Joint Chairs Report (JCR) comes out each year and captures all of the work done by the Maryland General Assembly on the state budget including budget language and committee narrative that represent one of our primary means to exercise oversight over the Executive Branch. You can read it in all its details here.

  • The Dentzel Carousel at Glen Echo Park has reopened in time to celebrate its 100th anniversary.  I was excited to attend the ceremonial reopening.
  • Two of District 16's municipalities recently held local elections.  Congratulations to Mayor Melanie Rose White and Councilmembers Michael Dorsey, Paula Durbin, Michael Mezey, Alfred Muller, Bruce Pirnie, and Carolina Zumaran-Jones in Friendship Heights.  And congratulations to Mayor Dia Costello and Councilmembers Matt Stiglitz and Dan Spealman in Glen Echo.
  • The Governor's plan to expand I-270 and I-495 with two new toll lanes in each direction was a hot topic this legislative session, once again.  The Washington Post has a story summarizing the fate of legislation on the issue.  The Post also published my response to their recent editorial on the topic.
  • For several years, I have worked with colleagues to secure funds for small businesses uniquely impacted by the Purple Line construction.  This year, we were successful in obtaining $2.5 million in targeted funds for small businesses.  Read about it here.
