Bethesda Magazine By Jacob Bogage Marc Korman may well be the biggest winner in Montgomery County’s state legislative races Tuesday night. The Washington Post endorsee grabbed the third District 16 nomination with 7,300 votes good enough for 22 percent of the vote. Incumbents Del. Ariana Kelly and Del. Bill Frick received 26 and 23 percent of the vote respectively in the down county district to secure spots in the general election. David Moon, author of the “Maryland Juice” blog, captured a delegate seat with about 18.5 percent of the vote in the east county 20th district, while incumbent Del. Sheila Hixson won about 24 percent of the vote. While Will Smith edged out Will Jawando for the third slot in the district primary by about 400 votes.
In District 17, Del. Kumar Barve advanced with nearly a 6-point win, Del. Jim Gilchrist is nearly tied with 24-year-old activist Andrew Platt by 35 votes. Former Rockville Mayor Susan Hoffman is close too, with less than 100 votes separating her and Gilchrist in the unofficial results. That third seat in the general election is too close to call. Cheryl Kagan won the nomination over Del. Luiz Simmons to replace retired State Sen. Jenny Forehand. Del. Susan Lee scored an overwhelming victory in a State Senate race to replace Democratic Attorney General nominee Brian Frosh. Elsewhere, incumbents ruled the county legislative races. State Sen. Rich Madaleno of the 18th district put down a challenge from Dana Beyer with a 21-point win. Madaleno will run unopposed in the November general election. Comments are closed.
