By Aaron Kraut There was little (if any) actual debating Sunday in what was billed as a debate for the eight candidates vying for three seats in June’s District 16 House of Delegates Democratic primary. There were some illuminating responses to questions about school construction funding and Maryland’s failed health care exchange. But perhaps most interesting were the responses on transportation issues from incumbents Ariana Kelly and Bill Frick. Frick jumped out of the attorney general race on filing deadline day to run for reelection in the House. Washington Jewish Week
Suzanne Pollack Now that state Sen. Brian Frosh is seeking the job of attorney general, voters in Maryland’s 16th District will be looking for a new legislator to represent them in Annapolis. They also will be choosing three members of the House of Delegates from a field that includes two incumbents and lots of new faces. The Seventh State
By David Lublin District 16 is centered on Bethesda. In redistricting, it lost a small amount of territory around Garrett Park and White Flint. It gained more area in Potomac to compensate. The overall net change is small. The district has a high number of Reform Jewish voters. Asian Americans compose 11% of the voting-age population. On January 28, Marc appeared on Political Pulse, Montgomery Municipal Cable's political affairs program.

By Lou Peck Local real estate agent Ted Duncan, who spent a decade pursuing an acting career in New York and Los Angeles, appears ready to try his luck on a different stage. With barely a month until the Feb. 25 filing deadline, Duncan is one of two likely late entrants in the race for state delegate in Bethesda/Potomac-based District 16. He expects to make a final decision this week. Also poised to join the contest in the coming weeks is Peter Dennis, an attorney/businessman who made an unsuccessful 2010 bid for delegate in the district. Center Maryland
Josh Kurtz Beyond the gubernatorial race, the campaign finance reports released last week tell several other fascinating stories. You can already detect the storylines – and some of the potential major players – of upcoming elections. A Real Mayoral Primary in 2016? Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake had less money in her campaign account than both City Council President Jack Young and former Mayor Sheila Dixon – potential rivals when she runs for reelection in 2016 – even though she raised more money in the past year. By Aaron Kraut Marc Korman says he sees the state legislature as a way to have a “much bigger impact on a narrow range of issues.” Judging by the support he got at a Sunday afternoon fundraiser, the District 16 House of Delegates candidate stands a pretty good chance of putting that belief to work. By Aaron Kraut District 16 House of Delegates candidate Marc Korman on Monday announced a new batch of endorsements that includes a number of nearby state legislators, a pair of County Councilmembers and Attorney General Doug Gansler. Korman, an attorney and longtime local Democratic Party organizer, has pointed to Metro and school construction as two priorities. In July, he announced a list of almost 100 local supporters. Korman is serving as chair of the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board and is the secretary of the Bethesda Urban Partnership Board of Directors. The Sentinel
By Donna Broadway Marc Korman is looking for a promotion. The Bethesda-based lawyer has represented District 16 in the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, the local governing board of the Maryland Democratic Party, for six years, and he is now looking to represent District 16 in the Maryland General Assembly. Roll Call
By Rebecca Gale Marc Korman has gained a new appreciation for his old bosses. A former staffer to ex-Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., and Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., Korman said he understands members of Congress much better now that he is running for office himself. |
